Where the tools live
- Administrative Tools: Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools.
- Disk Cleanup: search cleanmgr, or right-click a drive > Properties > General.
- Storage Sense: Settings > System > Storage.
- Recovery: Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.
Keeping an older install healthy
The maintenance that actually pays off on aging Windows 10 hardware is unglamorous: keep 15 to 20 percent free space on the system drive, remove software you no longer launch, verify that backups restore, and check Reliability Monitor after every crash instead of guessing.
Planning ahead
If the machine will not be upgraded, treat backup and recovery media as the priority: create a recovery drive, keep installation media on a USB stick, and confirm your product activation is tied to your Microsoft account before anything fails.
