Diagnosis beats guesswork. These utilities show what a process is doing, what it touched, and whether the hardware underneath is sound.

A repeatable diagnostic order

  1. 1Reliability Monitor for a timeline of when the problem started.
  2. 2Event Viewer for the matching error, warning and source.
  3. 3Resource Monitor or Process Explorer for what is consuming resources now.
  4. 4Process Monitor when you need file, registry and process detail.
  5. 5Windows Memory Diagnostic or a storage check when the pattern looks like hardware.

Random crashes usually mean hardware or drivers

Unrelated applications crashing at unrelated moments is rarely a software bug. Memory faults, a failing system drive, overheating or an unstable overclock produce exactly that pattern, and each is testable.
