What TeraCopy does

TeraCopy replaces or augments the built-in Windows copy engine for file transfers between drives, network shares, and removable media. Its core selling points are pausing/resuming interrupted transfers, skipping locked or errored files without stopping the whole job, and optional checksum verification of copied data.

It integrates into File Explorer's right-click context menu and can be set as the default handler for drag-and-drop copy/move operations, or used only when explicitly invoked.

Basic vs Pro editions

Code Sector distributes a free Basic edition alongside a paid Pro edition. Pro adds features such as asynchronous copying to multiple targets at once, filtering by file type, and priority management for queued jobs. Verification and checksums

TeraCopy can compute a checksum (CRC32 by default) of source files after copying and compare it against the destination to confirm the copy is bit-for-bit identical. This matters most on unreliable connections — USB drives with marginal contacts, flaky network shares, or older external enclosures — where a copy can silently complete with corrupted data using a plain drag-and-drop.

Shell integration and file lists

During installation TeraCopy offers to add itself to the Explorer context menu and to replace Explorer's default copy/move handler. Both are optional and can be toggled later in TeraCopy's settings. It also supports saving and reusing file lists for repeated backup-style copy jobs.

Where to download it

Only install TeraCopy from the official Code Sector website (codesector.com/teracopy) or a listing that links directly to it, such as the Microsoft Store. Avoid third-party "download portal" sites that repackage installers with bundled adware.

System requirements and compatibility

TeraCopy runs on modern Windows versions including Windows 10 and Windows 11, in both 32-bit and 64-bit builds where offered. It does not replace Windows' own file system tools — it sits alongside Explorer as a copy-engine substitute, not a disk or partition utility.

When you don't need it

For small, everyday copies between fast local drives, Windows Explorer's built-in copy is fine. TeraCopy earns its keep on large transfers, unreliable media, or workflows where verifying integrity matters — video/photo archiving, moving VM images, or copying to network-attached storage over Wi-Fi.
